Beer was brewed in Poland already in the middle age. The first big breweries were funded in 19th century by the Czech in Żywiec and by the Germans in Warsaw. Today the Żywiec brewery, situated in the feet of West Beskid is still reckoned as the best in Poland. The beer from this brewery is exported to many western countries. The stylish guesthouse of the brewery is very famed among the regional beer fans.
In Poland unluckily one can get beer straight from the barrel. The
quality of the polish beer is varied. Some may daringly compete with
the best German or Czech kinds. To the best breweries in Poland, next
to the Żywiec, belong: Carlsberg - Okocim (with famous Zagloba beer),
Warka - situated about 60 kilometers south from Warsaw, Lech
Wielkopolska brewery in Poznan- producer of admitted and awarded Tyskie
beer.
In Grodzisk, near Poznan, is brewed another beer
specialty - wheat beer. It refers to old germen recipe, and so in last
few centuries became admitted even in Brandenburg in Germany.
