BieszczadyThere is a region in Poland, where you can see the unspoilt nature - crystal water, monumental trees, plains changing their colours throughout the year, from green in the spring to the yellow and red in the autumn, and white when there are covered with snow.

It is located in the far south-east, in Podkarpackie Voivodeship, at the borders with the Slovak Republic and Ukraine. It is called Bieszczady.

Wigry Lake

Wigry Lake Wigry National Park, located in the north-east part of Poland, in Podlaskie Voivodeship, was created on January 1st, 1989. Its northern part lies within the East Suwalki Lakeland, while the southern part within the Augustow Plain. The total area of the Park is 15,085 ha. Forests (63 %) and surface waters (19 %) cover the major part of its area. 623 ha which consists of 120 ha of forests are strictly protected. Agriculturally managed areas are encompassed by landscape protection.

Chopin biography

Chopin's monument Frederick Francois CHOPIN, the most eminent Polish composer, was born on 1st March (some historians quote the date of 22nd February) 1810 in Żelazowa Wola (around 50 km away from Warsaw) in the estate of count Skarbek, where Frederick's father (of French descent), Nicholas Chopin, lived and worked as tutor.

Polish Presidency of the European Union Council

From July 2011 Poland will hold the Presidency in the Council of the European Union. Every six months a different member state of the European Union holds the Presidency presiding over the work of the Council of the European Union. At the same time the state holding the Presidency becomes the host of most of the Union's events and plays a key role in all the fields of activity of the European Union. It is responsible for the organization of EU meetings, sets the Union's political direction and ensures its development, integration and security.
